The millennium city Gurgaon ought to have a millennium police force. And Gurgaon Traffic Police (GTP) has taken a great step forward by going online on Facebook!
Who would have thought that this would work out? But it seems its going all guns blazing. People are posting images of traffic offenses online and action is being taken by GTP based on this evidence. There are regular FB updates from GTP and also responses to users comments.
For all those, who always wanted to put the hand out of the window and punch such offenders, now need to just pull out their mobile phones and click. (Most mobile phones have reasonably high end cameras these days, so the camera part shouldn't be an issue -- the uploading may be slightly more effort though).
As per an update today on FB, "A total of 535 vehicles were challaned by GTP ON 12/12/2010 of which 196 were for wrong parking, 41 for red light jump, 62 for over speeding, 28 for drunken driving, 9 for black film and rest were for others." Cool! (this is overall, and not due to FB updates).
This is an awesome step towards citizens becoming eyes and ears of the traffic police, and a definite deterrent for quite a few traffic offenses. Hopefully this will lead to better and safer roads. Kudos!
Spread the good word. http://www.facebook.com/GTPGGN
